OUR MISSION

A Different Side of Japan

Tokyo Love District (TLD) is an independent publication and private guiding service connecting curious people with Japan’s nightlife, adult entertainment, and alternative culture.

These worlds attract plenty of attention. Understanding them takes more than a search result. Language barriers, unfamiliar customs, and unspoken expectations can make it difficult to know where to begin.

Through firsthand knowledge, cultural context, and candid conversation, TLD helps bridge that gap.

Whether you’re reading our articles, planning a trip, or exploring Japan with a private guide, our goal is to make unfamiliar experiences more accessible without losing sight of the people and communities behind them.

People. Places. Culture. Experiences.

WHAT WE DO

Meet June Lovejoy

Tokyo Love District was originally co-founded by June Lovejoy, an American-born, Japan-based performer, creator, and educator with a background in Japanese adult entertainment and bilingual media.

With experience on both sides of the camera, alongside work in translation, interpretation, international guest appearances, and education, June brings a perspective shaped by direct involvement in the industries and communities TLD covers.

That experience helps bridge Japanese and English-speaking audiences with cultural understanding, honest communication, and an appreciation for how much meaning can get lost between languages.

Through Tokyo Love District, June shares that knowledge through editorial work and personalized experiences for visitors who want to explore Japan beyond the conventional tourist trail.

OUR APPROACH

Curiosity. Respect. Real Experiences.

Curiosity

We believe curiosity deserves thoughtful answers.

There should be room to ask questions, discover unfamiliar places, and learn about experiences outside your everyday world without embarrassment or judgment.

Firsthand Insight

Our approach is informed by lived experience, research, conversations, and direct engagement with Japan’s communities.

We value practical information, cultural context, and honest perspectives over sensationalism.

Respect for Communities

Behind every venue, performance, and story are real people whose work and boundaries deserve respect.

We value clear communication, consent, privacy, and freedom of expression. Exploration should be welcoming, but access always comes with responsibility.
