Fetish Festival 23: An English Guide to Tokyo’s Kinkiest Fall Event

by Huda

Looking for a chance to fly your freak flag in Tokyo this September?

Fetish Festival (aka FetiFes) in Nihonbashi, Tokyo is the convention that you’ve been waiting for! Established in 2013, the 23rd iteration of FetiFes on September 17th, 2023 from 12:00-18:00 (12pm-6pm) promises to honor the event’s 10th anniversary with amazing guests and events.

Even if you’re vanilla in your sexual preferences, FetiFes has something for you! Fans of tattoos, hard rock, horror, alternative fashion, and cult media also gather at this event. From subculture veterans to complete novices, FetiFes encourages anyone 18 and over to attend and explore their interests. This article will cover the basics of what you need to know to enjoy FetiFes 23 to the fullest!

Buying tickets and entering the event hall

FetiFes 23 will take place in the Mensho Kaikan, an event hall in Tokyo’s Nihonbashi neighborhood. Event tickets can be pre-ordered via ticketing portal eplus, and same-day tickets will also be sold in front of the event hall.

Located in an area with ample public transportation, the Mensho Kaikan can be easily reached via the following train routes (walking times are approximate):

From Ningyocho Station (Hibiya Line, Toei Asakusa Line): From Exit A4, the Mensho Kaikan is a 6-minute walk away.
From Bakuro-yokoyama Station (Toei Shinjuku Line): From Exit A3, the Mensho Kaikan is a 6-minute walk away.
From Higashi-nihombashi Station (Toei Asakusa Line): From Exit B2, the Mensho Kaikan is a 6-minute walk away.
From Bakurocho Station (Sōbu Line Rapid Train): From Exit 1, the Mensho Kaikan is a 9-minute walk away.

Upon reaching the Mensho Kaikan, attendees will need to provide identification to verify their age. We recommend bringing at least one of the following items:

  • A driver’s license
  • A passport
  • A Japanese residence card
  • A Japanese My Number card

Many vendors at FetiFes will only accept cash, so try to bring plenty of yen! There is a Family Mart convenience store with an ATM less than a minute away from the venue. Consider stopping there if you’re low on funds, or even if you just want a bite to eat. No munching inside of the event hall, though. Most convenience store ATMs accept foreign cards.

Upon purchasing a ticket, you will receive a wristband that you must wear during your time at the event. If you need to step outside for any reason, showing the wristband to a staff member will allow you to re-enter the venue. Unlike previous iterations of FetiFes, FetiFes 23 will run continuously from 12:00 until 18:00 with no mandatory afternoon break.

Spicy cosplay is allowed, but genitalia and non-male nipples must be covered. Also, make sure to be decent whenever you’re outside of the event space. FetiFes is a non-smoking event, and you will need to carry outerwear and personal belongings with you at all times.

Navigating FetiFes and how to participate

Guest/vendor booths will be on the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth floors of the building, with the performance stage on the fifth floor. The third floor has a unisex/gender-free restroom and changing rooms, but is mainly restricted to guests/staff. Restrooms are on all floors excluding the fifth floor. Please refer to the floor guide below.

Here’s an important point to remember about FetiFes: Consent is key! Photography is allowed, but make sure to obtain permission from the subject(s) of your photos. Certain booths may allow to you to briefly experience being tied up, spanked, or hit with impact play tools. Staff at these booths will initiate any necessary physical contact themselves, so just follow their lead! Some booths/guests may hand out free promotional flyers or cards, but haggling for items is prohibited.
