TABOO Batsu Game Bar Opens in Kabukicho – Tokyo’s New Interactive Drinking Experience

by TokyoLoveDistrict

Kabukicho’s nightlife is about to get a little more dangerous—in the most playful way possible. A brand-new concept bar called TABOO – Batsu Game Bar is opening in Shinjuku on April 4, 2026, promising a drinking experience where breaking the rules is part of the fun.

Located in the heart of Tokyo’s entertainment district, TABOO isn’t just a place to grab drinks—it’s an interactive game where guests must navigate a constantly changing set of forbidden words and forbidden actions.

If you accidentally break one of the rules…you’ll face a batsu game (punishment game).

A Bar Where Everything Might Be a Trap

The concept behind TABOO is simple but mischievous: every day, the bar establishes NG words and NG actions that guests must avoid.

The catch?
You won’t necessarily know what they are.

Say the wrong word, perform a forbidden gesture, or unknowingly step on one of the night’s “landmines,” and you’ll trigger a playful punishment game designed to entertain everyone in the bar.

It transforms an ordinary night of drinking into something closer to a live party game, where guests are constantly watching themselves—and each other—to avoid the next penalty.

As the creators put it:

“Why just drink when you can turn a boring night into a thrilling one?”

Bringing Childhood Play Back to Adult Nightlife

The team behind TABOO describes the bar as a place for adults who still love to play.

Their goal is to recreate the feeling of childhood games—when everything felt exciting, unpredictable, and a little chaotic—but with cocktails and nightlife energy.

Their concept tagline says it best:

“Turn a boring night into a stimulating night.”

TABOO is also the second entertainment bar produced by the team behind the project, with ambitions to expand even further. Their goal is to open three locations before the founder turns 40, making TABOO part of a growing nightlife brand.

A New Kind of Kabukicho Nightlife

Kabukicho is already famous for its unusual bars—from themed concept cafés to bizarre nightlife experiences—but TABOO adds a new twist by turning the entire bar into a game.

For visitors looking for something different from the typical drinking spot, TABOO promises exactly that: a place where every conversation, gesture, or slip of the tongue might trigger the next batsu game.

And in a district famous for its surprises, that’s saying something.
